Tennis Tournament

The first Sokol Washington Tennis Tournament was held on May 3rd and 4th, 1980 at the Oxon Hill Recreation Club, which is located next to the Sokol Washington property. There were 24 participants (16 men and 8 women) from Baltimore, Cleveland, California and the DC area. The next seven tournaments also were held at Oxon Hill with attendance varying from 25 to 30 participants. From 1985 through 1988, visitors from other units attending American Sokol sponsored wreath-laying ceremony in Arlington Cemetery, came, after the ceremony, to watch the Tennis Tournament and enjoy the picnic. Subsequent tournaments took place at the Naval Air Station at the D.C. Navy Yard and at Bluemont Park in Arlington, Virginia, where the Tournament is held to this day.

Schedule:
8:30 am – 9:00 am – Registration, Draws and Opening
9:00 am – Tournament start
4:00 pm – End of the tournament (Estimated)

Doubles and mixed doubles games will be played later in the day.

Sokol Members under 13: FREE
Sokol Members: $10.00
Sokol Non-members: $15.00

Registration fee guarantees at least two single games and includes food, beverages and trophies for the winners.

Please come even if the weather is not cooperating in the morning hours; refreshments will be there.
